Ice or gauze for a knocked-out tooth—what’s your go-to?

Had a little mishap skateboarding last weekend (don’t ask), and my front tooth went flying. I panicked and stuck it in some cold milk (thank you, Google), but the dentist said if I couldn’t do that, ice or gauze would be next best. Thing is, I’ve heard both sides: some people swear by wrapping it in gauze to keep it moist and protected, others say ice helps with pain and swelling. Honestly, I was too freaked out to think straight and just grabbed whatever was nearby. Has anyone actually tried both? Did one feel better or seem to help more? I feel like ice numbs things but maybe dries the tooth out? Or maybe that’s just me overthinking. Would love to hear what’s worked for you all if you’ve ever had a dental oops moment like this.

Man, I totally get the wish for a “tooth pod”—I’d buy that in a heartbeat. Last time my buddy lost a tooth at a hockey game, we just wrapped it in a napkin and hoped for the best... not ideal. Milk wasn’t anywhere in sight, and honestly, who brings that to a rink? If someone invents a pocket-sized tooth saver, count me in.
