Little things that made getting veneers way easier

If you’re thinking about veneers, here’s a random tip: bring some lip balm to your appointment. My lips got so dry from holding my mouth open forever, I swear. Anyone else have weird little hacks for making the process less awkward?

Chapstick is a must, totally agree. I actually brought my own headphones and a playlist, which helped distract me from the weird drilling sounds and awkward silences. The hygienist looked at me like I was moving in for the week, but hey, it worked. Also, I started doing jaw stretches after my first appointment—my face felt weirdly sore from holding it open so long. Maybe that’s overkill, but I swear it made the next session less brutal.

One thing that surprised me: those little suction things they use can make your lips even drier, so I just asked for a break halfway through to reapply balm. Felt kind of silly, but honestly, comfort > pride when you’re stuck in that chair forever. Anyone else get super cold in those offices? I always wish I’d brought a hoodie...

Totally get what you mean about the cold—every dentist’s office I’ve been to feels like a meat locker. I actually started bringing those little hand warmers in my pockets. Also, jaw stretches aren’t overkill at all. My dentist even suggested them after I complained about soreness. Did you ever try those disposable dental bib clips? They’re way less scratchy than the metal ones, but I always feel a bit extra bringing my own stuff in...

Bringing your own bib clips isn’t weird at all—lots of people have little comfort tricks, and honestly, anything that makes the appointment easier is worth it. I always tell patients to mention if something feels scratchy or cold, because we can usually swap things out. On jaw stretches, you’re right—they help a ton with soreness, especially if you’re in the chair for a while. Even a quick stretch before and after can make a difference.

Never thought about jaw stretches until now—probably explains why my face felt like it ran a marathon afterward. I was so focused on not drooling everywhere that I totally ignored how stiff my jaw was getting. Next time, I’m definitely going to try the quick stretch thing. Also, those bib clips are weirdly intimidating... like, who knew something so small could feel so cold?
