Finally Found Relief From Sore Gums - What Helped You?

Honestly, I thought I'd just have to get used to sore spots with my new dentures, but using a bit of that denture cushion stuff and switching to a milder adhesive made a huge difference. Plus, rinsing with warm salt water helped when things got really tender. Took a couple weeks, but now I can actually eat toast again without wincing. Anyone else have a trick that worked for them? Or maybe something weird you tried that actually helped?

I’m new to dentures myself and honestly didn’t expect the whole sore gums thing to be such a big deal. That first week, I felt like I’d been chewing on gravel. I tried the warm salt water rinse too - definitely helped, though I kept accidentally swallowing it (not recommended, tastes like regret).

One weird thing that worked for me: I started using a super soft baby toothbrush to gently massage my gums at night. It sounds goofy, but it felt weirdly soothing and seemed to help with the swelling. Also, I ditched crunchy stuff for a while and lived on mashed potatoes and scrambled eggs… not glamorous, but hey, comfort food is comfort food.

I’m still figuring out adhesives - some of them felt like glue from a craft store and made things worse. The milder stuff is less sticky but way more comfortable for me. Glad to hear you’re back to eating toast; that’s basically my goal right now.
