My denture shifts only during some chewing motions

How do you tell whether a denture shifting while chewing is part of learning to eat with it or a sign the fit should be checked? Does it matter if the movement happens with particular foods or jaw motions, or if there’s rubbing, a sore spot, or a change in speech too?

I’m also curious how long an unstable feeling should persist before asking the dentist to assess the fit. What observations are most useful to share at that appointment?

For the appointment, note which foods and jaw motions bring on the shift, whether it seems to move on one side or both, and whether it settles back into place when you stop chewing. That pattern may help the dentist tell whether the movement is tied to a particular bite or happens more generally.
