Had a tooth pulled last week and ended up with the dreaded dry socket. Dentist gave me some medicated dressing but honestly, it wasn't doing much. A friend suggested clove oil, and um, I was skeptical at first but desperate enough to try anything. Dabbed a little on a cotton swab and gently placed it in the socket—instant relief! Seriously felt like magic. Curious if anyone else had luck with clove oil or maybe something else worked better for you?

I had a similar experience a couple years back after getting my wisdom tooth out. The dentist warned me about dry socket, but I figured I'd be fine—until I wasn't. Man, that pain was no joke. Tried the medicated dressing too, and it helped a bit, but not enough to really ease things.

Then my mom mentioned clove oil. Honestly, I thought she was just pulling some old-school remedy out of thin air, but at that point, I'd have tried anything short of voodoo. Dabbed some on a cotton ball and gently placed it in the socket...and yeah, instant relief is exactly how I'd describe it. It didn't completely eliminate the discomfort long-term, but it made things bearable until the healing kicked in.

Funny how sometimes these traditional remedies actually work better than modern medicine. Glad you found something that helped—dry socket is definitely one of those experiences you don't forget easily.

Yeah, it's pretty fascinating how often these old-school remedies actually hold up. Clove oil's got eugenol, which is a natural anesthetic—makes sense why it helped. Wonder why dentists don't mention it more often though...

I see your point, but dentists probably don't mention clove oil often because it's more of a temporary fix than a long-term solution. Eugenol does numb pain effectively, sure, but it doesn't address underlying issues like infection or decay. I tried it myself once—worked great for a night or two, but eventually had to get proper dental treatment anyway. Traditional remedies can be helpful, but maybe they're best as complementary rather than replacements for modern dentistry...?

Yeah, that's a fair point about clove oil being more of a temporary fix. I had a similar experience a couple years back—wisdom tooth extraction went sideways, and the pain was brutal. Clove oil helped me get through the weekend until I could see my dentist again. It definitely numbed the pain, but you're right, it didn't solve the underlying issue. Still, it's handy to have around for emergencies or when you can't immediately get professional help.
