I get the appeal of ice cream for morale, but I was honestly too worried about the sugar messing with my healing. My dentist warned me that sweet stuff could linger and cause issues, so I stuck to plain yogurt or even just cold applesauce (not as fun, I know). Streaming shows helped distract me, but I kept overthinking every weird twinge—paranoia is real when you’re on a tight budget and can’t afford another trip to the oral surgeon. Maybe being extra cautious made recovery drag on, but at least I didn’t risk it with crunchy snacks.

Totally get where you’re coming from with the paranoia—once you’ve had a dry socket, every little ache feels like a red flag. I like that you went with yogurt and applesauce, even if it’s not as “fun.” I’ve seen folks do just fine with ice cream, but it’s smart to listen to your gut (and your dentist). Streaming shows is underrated for recovery, honestly. Sometimes being cautious is the right call, even if it feels slow.

I get wanting to play it safe, but honestly, when my kid had a dry socket, the super soft diet just made him cranky after a few days. We ended up blending soups and even some pasta—just made sure nothing was hot or had little bits that could get stuck. It sped things up for us. Sometimes I think being too cautious can drag things out more than needed... but every kid’s different.

I get where you’re coming from, but I’d still lean toward caution, especially with dry socket. My nephew tried to eat “normal” food too soon and ended up with more pain and a longer healing time. It’s tough when kids get cranky, but honestly, a few extra days of boring food seemed worth it to avoid setbacks. I guess it’s a balancing act—sometimes the slow route saves headaches down the road.

- I get the caution, totally, but sometimes being super restrictive can actually make things harder, especially with kids who are already cranky from pain or boredom.
- When I had a dry socket, sticking to only bland food drove me nuts after a couple days. I started adding in soft foods like mashed potatoes and scrambled eggs—nothing crunchy or chewy—and it was fine, as long as I took it slow.
- The main thing is avoiding anything that could get stuck in the socket or requires a lot of chewing. But you don’t have to survive on broth and applesauce forever.
- Honestly, mood plays a big part in healing too. If someone’s miserable from the food restrictions, that stress isn’t helpful either.
- Maybe it’s not all or nothing? Gradually introducing safe soft foods worked for me and kept me sane—just avoided straws, chips, and anything sharp.
- Everyone’s different though. If the pain spikes or something feels off, definitely scale back. But a little variety might actually help more than hurt.
