Just saw this news piece about how common dry sockets are after wisdom tooth removal, and it reminded me of my own nightmare last year. Man, that pain was no joke...felt like it took forever to heal. The article mentioned some new treatments dentists are trying out, like special gels and stuff. Curious if anyone here's tried these newer methods or has their own tricks for speeding things up.

Had a similar experience myself a couple years back, and yeah, dry socket pain is something else... I looked into those gels you're talking about—seems they're meant to keep the socket moist and reduce inflammation, which makes sense. Didn't get to try them personally, but my dentist recommended warm saltwater rinses multiple times a day, plus careful diet adjustments (basically lived on smoothies and soups). It took patience, but eventually healed up nicely. Hang in there, it does get better.

Dry socket is honestly one of my biggest dental fears. I had my wisdom teeth out last year and was so paranoid about it that I practically lived on smoothies and mashed potatoes for weeks longer than I probably needed to, lol. My dentist also recommended the saltwater rinses, but I was super cautious about rinsing too vigorously because I'd read somewhere that could actually dislodge the clot. (Yeah, I went down a Google rabbit hole—probably not the best idea when you're already anxious.)

Those gels sound interesting though... wish I'd known about them back then. I did try clove oil at one point because someone told me it numbs the pain, but honestly, the taste was so intense and weird that I couldn't handle it. Maybe I'm just overly sensitive, but it felt like chewing on a Christmas decoration or something.

Anyway, glad to hear yours healed up eventually! Dental stuff always seems to take forever to get better, doesn't it? Hang in there, OP—you're definitely not alone in this struggle.

Totally relate to the clove oil thing... my daughter tried it after her extraction and said it tasted like "Christmas gone wrong," lol. Saltwater rinses helped, but yeah, we were super gentle too—better safe than sorry. Glad you're past the worst of it now!

Clove oil definitely has a weird taste, haha. I remember being paranoid about rinsing too hard and messing things up. Did anyone's dentist recommend those medicated gels mentioned earlier? Wondering if they're actually helpful or just hype.
