Interesting point about technique being a potential issue. I've seen similar cases in my practice where patients assumed it was the floss itself causing irritation, but after reviewing their flossing habits, we found they were applying way too much pressure or snapping the floss aggressively between teeth. Even waxed floss can cause inflammation if used incorrectly. Personally, I had a patient who switched floss brands multiple times before realizing the real culprit was just overly vigorous flossing. Once they eased up and learned a gentler methodβsliding the floss gently along the tooth surface rather than pushing down hardβthe irritation cleared up within days. Have you noticed if you're flossing more forcefully lately, or maybe rushing through it? Technique adjustments can make a surprising difference...

Yeah, totally agree with this. When I first got braces, I thought my gums were reacting badly to the floss brand too. Turns out I was just being way too rough trying to get around the brackets and wires. Once I slowed down and stopped forcing it, things improved pretty quickly. Technique really does make a huge difference... hang in there, you'll probably notice improvement soon once you ease up a bit.

Definitely true. I've seen patients who swear they're allergic to floss, but usually they're just flossing like they're sawing wood... 😅 Gentle and steady is keyβyour gums will thank you later.
I've definitely noticed that tooβtechnique matters a ton. But sometimes even gentle flossing can irritate gums if they're already inflamed or sensitive from something else. Have you checked if maybe your toothpaste or mouthwash changed formulas recently? I had a similar issue where my gums were randomly acting up, and it turned out the new whitening toothpaste I'd picked up was causing irritation. Switched back to my old brand, and things calmed down pretty quickly.
Also, has anyone else found interdental brushes easier on sensitive gums compared to regular floss? I started using those little brushes when my gums were feeling extra sensitive, and they seemed way less harsh... Curious if others have had similar experiences.
I've had similar issues with flossing causing irritation, even when I'm careful. Tried those interdental brushes too, and honestly, they felt gentler on my gums. Did you notice any difference depending on the brush size or brand? Curious if that matters much...
