Had to go through a root canal redo myself a few years back. The first time, one of those tiny canals was missed—dentist said it happens more often than folks think. Honestly, it was frustrating, but the second time around finally did the trick. The waiting and uncertainty were the worst part for me.

- Same thing happened to me—dentist missed a canal, had to go back in.
- Super annoying, especially with the extra cost and pain.
- Did your insurance cover the redo? Mine didn't, which was a nasty surprise.
- Wondering if newer tech helps catch those tiny canals better now...

My daughter had to have a root canal redone, too. I asked about the tech, and her dentist used a microscope the second time—apparently, that made a big difference spotting the missed canal. Did your dentist mention anything about using newer tools? I was surprised insurance didn’t cover the redo for us either. Felt like such a ripoff.

Yeah, insurance not covering a redo is wild. Happened to me too—felt like I was getting double-billed for someone else’s mistake. About the tech, my dentist didn’t mention anything fancy like a microscope, just the regular x-rays and stuff. Makes me wonder if that’s why they missed it the first time. Honestly, I never realized how easy it is to miss a canal until it happened to me. You’d think with all the money we pay, they’d have the latest gear, right?

It’s frustrating, but you’re not alone. Dental work always feels like a gamble, and when you have to go through it twice, it’s just extra stress (and cash). Hope your daughter’s feeling better now. The second time around usually does the trick, but it’s still a pain—literally and financially.

The insurance thing is just... I don’t even know. When we found out my daughter’s root canal needed to be redone, I thought, “Okay, at least insurance will help.” But nope! It’s like they treat it as some optional spa treatment, not, you know, fixing a problem that wasn’t fixed the first time. I’m still not over that double-billed feeling either. I mean, if you got your car fixed and the brakes failed, you wouldn’t pay the mechanic again, right?

About the tech—yeah, it’s wild how much depends on what equipment they have. The first dentist we went to just used the usual x-rays and those tiny mirrors. I had no idea there was such a thing as a dental microscope until the specialist mentioned it during the redo. Apparently, some canals are basically hiding in there, and if the dentist can’t see them, they get missed. I get it, teeth are tiny and complicated, but still... for the price, you’d think they’d have all the gadgets.

I have to admit, I was kind of naive about how often this happens. I always thought root canals were a “one and done” thing. The second time around, I was way more anxious for my daughter (and honestly, for our bank account). I kept second-guessing—should we have gone to a specialist from the start? Should I have asked more questions? It’s so hard to know what’s “normal” and what’s just bad luck.

She’s doing better now, thankfully. The pain was rough for a bit, but after the second procedure, it really did seem to solve the problem. Still, I’m way more cautious now. I ask about equipment, about who’s doing what, all of it. Maybe it makes me that “annoying parent” in the waiting room, but after dealing with this mess, I’d rather be annoying than go through it again.

Anyway, if anyone’s reading this and feeling like it’s just them—nope, you’re not alone. Dental stuff is expensive and unpredictable, and even when you do everything right, sometimes you end up back in the chair.
