I get what you’re saying about the follow-up charges—those really add up. But I’ve actually found that in some practices, the post-op care is included, or at least the first follow-up is. Maybe it depends on your insurance or where you go? I also wonder if sending photos is always enough... My dentist was super insistent about an in-person check because of infection risk. I get wanting to avoid extra costs, but sometimes those visits catch stuff early that a photo just can’t show. It’s frustrating, though—definitely not as straightforward as they make it sound.

That’s interesting—mine actually let me skip the in-person follow-up and just send a photo. I felt okay, but then again, I kept worrying maybe something was getting missed. For those who had to go back in, did you actually find anything wrong, or was it just routine? I’m curious if anyone’s ever caught an issue early that way.

It’s funny—I’ve seen both sides of this. I had a patient send in a photo after root tip surgery, and honestly, it looked fine at first glance. But when they came in for a routine check (they were anxious, so we scheduled it anyway), we spotted a tiny bit of infection starting that just didn’t show up in the photo. It was subtle—barely any swelling, but definitely something we needed to catch early. I get why some folks feel photos are enough, but sometimes you just can’t beat seeing things up close.

That’s exactly why I always go in for the follow-ups, even if things look okay in the mirror or in photos. After my own root tip surgery, I thought everything was healing fine, but my dentist caught a tiny issue I never would’ve noticed. It’s reassuring to know I’m not just being overly cautious.

That’s interesting—I had a similar situation after my root tip surgery where I thought everything was fine, but at my follow-up, the dentist spotted a bit of inflammation I hadn’t noticed at all. Honestly, I felt pretty normal after about a week, but knowing there could be hidden issues made me a lot more cautious. It’s kind of surprising how different the inside of your mouth can feel versus what’s actually going on. Sometimes I wonder if we ever really know what “healed” feels like until a pro takes a look.
