Just found out from my dentist that eating ice cream after an apicoectomy can actually help ease the swelling and discomfort. Um, finally a medical excuse to binge on mint chocolate chip... anyone else heard of this or got other tasty tips?

Haha, mint chocolate chip therapy sounds perfect right about now. I've actually heard something similar—cold foods like ice cream or even smoothies can really soothe the inflammation and tenderness after dental procedures. When I had mine done, frozen yogurt was my go-to comfort snack. It felt indulgent but still gentle enough not to irritate anything. Glad you're finding a silver lining in your recovery... hope you feel better soon!

Mint choc chip was my kid's pick too after his root canal. Dentist actually recommended cold stuff to ease swelling—something about constricting blood vessels? Anyway, seemed to help a lot... plus it kept him distracted from complaining too much, haha.

Mint choc chip is a solid choice, my go-to was always vanilla after orthodontic appointments. Cold definitely helps with swelling—my orthodontist explained it similarly, something about reducing inflammation by narrowing blood vessels. I remember after getting braces tightened or adjustments done, ice cream or even frozen yogurt was a lifesaver. Plus, like you said, it's a good distraction from the soreness. One thing though, I'd avoid anything with nuts or crunchy bits right after dental work... learned that the hard way once.

Mint choc chip is definitely a classic, but vanilla makes sense too—simple and soothing. Interesting point about avoiding crunchy bits; I hadn't thought about that, but it totally makes sense considering the sensitivity after dental procedures. I remember reading somewhere that cold foods help because they constrict blood vessels, reducing swelling and numbing the area slightly. Makes sense step-by-step: cold → blood vessels narrow → less blood flow → less inflammation and pain.

Personally, I went for strawberry sorbet after my wisdom teeth removal. It was refreshing without being overly sweet or creamy, which helped since I didn't feel like eating anything heavy at the time. Also, sorbets tend to melt quicker, so there's less chewing involved—another plus when your mouth is sore. But now I'm curious if certain flavors or ingredients might actually speed up healing or if it's purely about the cold temperature... might have to look into that.
