Yeah, I totally get what you mean about the electric brushes. My son actually thought it was a toy at first and just waved it around, so we had to go back to manual for a bit. Out of curiosity, did you ever try those little hourglass timers? I feel like they helped us more than anything else—he loved racing the sand.
