Picture this: 13-year-old me, sitting in the waiting room, clutching a magazine I wasn’t actually reading—just sweating bullets about what was gonna happen. My mom kept saying “it’ll be fine,” but all I could think about was whether they’d slap metal on my teeth right away or just poke around. Ended up being mostly x-rays, molds (that goop is so gross), and a chat about “treatment options.” Did anyone else expect to walk out with braces on day one? Or have a totally different experience?

- Totally thought I’d walk out with a full set of braces and maybe some cyborg upgrades.
- Instead, just got a mouthful of that weird minty goop and a bunch of x-rays.
- Honestly, felt like a beta test for my teeth.
- The real hardware install came weeks later… and yeah, not as cool as upgrading a PC.

Not gonna lie, I kinda liked the “beta test” phase more than the actual braces install. That minty goop was gross, but at least it didn’t involve wires poking at my cheeks for months. When I finally got the braces put on, I was expecting some cool sci-fi vibe too, but nope… just a mouthful of metal and a weird lisp for like a week.

Honestly, the x-rays were the only part that felt remotely high-tech. The rest felt like medieval torture gear. But hey, at least you didn’t get those old-school impressions with the pink stuff that nearly made me gag. The minty one’s an upgrade in my book.

I guess it’s not as fun as building a PC, but there’s something kinda satisfying about seeing your teeth slowly line up. Feels like unlocking achievements, just way slower.

Honestly, I always thought the install was kinda cool in a weird way. Maybe it’s just me, but seeing all those brackets go on felt like getting an upgrade... even if the first week was all soup and mashed potatoes. The minty impression stuff is a huge step up from the old pink gunk, though—I nearly threw up when I got that as a kid. I do wish the rest of the process felt more futuristic. At least now with clear aligners and 3D scans, some folks get the sci-fi vibe for real.

I actually had to double-check with my orthodontist because I was convinced I’d get braces that first day too. Instead, it was a whole process—x-rays, molds (that gritty paste made me gag), and then a long talk about what my bite was doing. Didn’t realize how much planning went into it. I remember thinking I’d leave with a mouth full of metal, but it took like three more appointments before anything permanent happened. The waiting was honestly worse than the actual procedure for me.
