I've always wondered about this...like, imagine you suddenly noticed your smile was showing way more gum than usual, or maybe someone pointed it out to you (awkward, I know). Would you think it's just genetics, or could it be something else, like dental issues or habits you've picked up? I mean, I've heard random stuff like mouth breathing or certain medications can even affect it. Curious how you'd react or what you'd think was going on.
Yeah, genetics definitely play a big role, but you're onto something with habits and dental health too. Ever noticed how some people start showing more gum after braces or orthodontic treatments? Sometimes it's just how the teeth shift or gums react. Mouth breathing can also subtly change your gum line over timeβI've seen it happen. If it suddenly changed though, I'd probably check in with a dentist just to rule out inflammation or gum issues...better safe than sorry, right?
I've wondered about this too...do you think the type of braces or orthodontic method makes a difference in gum exposure afterward? I had traditional metal braces, and my gums did seem a bit more noticeable after they came off. Maybe it was just me being overly aware of them, but I swear there was a difference. Also, interesting point about mouth breathingβnever considered that could change your gum line. Do you think sleeping position or pillow type might indirectly affect mouth breathing habits? Seems plausible to me.
I agree with checking with a dentist if things suddenly shift though. A friend of mine thought her gums were just naturally uneven after treatment, but it turned out she had mild inflammation from plaque buildup. Once she got it treated, her gums looked noticeably better. Could be something simple like that?
