Had an implant done about three years ago and everything was fine at first, but lately I've noticed my gums around it getting kinda swollen and irritated. Dentist mentioned peri-implantitis and suggested some deep cleaning and antibiotics, maybe even surgery if things don't improve. Honestly, I'm a bit nervous about the whole thing... never expected issues this far down the line. Has anyone else here dealt with something similar? Curious how it went for you.

Totally understandable to feel nervousβ€”peri-implantitis can seem intimidating at first, but it's actually pretty manageable if caught early. I've seen quite a few patients with similar situations, and usually, the deep cleaning combined with antibiotics does the trick. Surgery is typically reserved for more advanced cases or when initial treatments don't fully resolve things.

The key here is staying proactive. Make sure you're keeping up with your dentist's recommendations and maintaining excellent oral hygiene around the implant area. Regular follow-ups are crucial too, just to monitor progress closely. I've had patients who were initially worried but ended up doing great after treatmentβ€”so hang in there, you're definitely not alone in this!
