What if your implant keeps bugging you - how would you cope?

nothing replaces a dentist who actually listens when you say something feels wrong

Couldn’t agree more. I had to switch dentists because mine kept telling me “everything’s fine” when my implant just didn’t feel right. It’s wild how much you have to advocate for yourself sometimes. Trusting your instincts isn’t being difficult - it’s just knowing your own body. Glad you pushed for that extra adjustment. It’s validating to hear I’m not the only one who’s had to speak up.

Yeah, that’s been my experience too. I kept getting told “it’ll settle down” when my crown felt off, but it just wasn’t right and I finally insisted on a second look. It’s frustrating, especially when you’re paying a ton out of pocket and you want it done right the first time. I actually started keeping notes after each visit - what felt weird, what the dentist said, etc. - so I could be more specific. Might sound a bit much, but it helped me feel less brushed off. Sometimes you really do have to be your own advocate.

Keeping notes is actually a smart move - I wish I’d thought of that during my first implant saga. I kept getting told “it’s normal” too, but I could barely chew on that side for months. Ended up going back three times before someone finally listened. I get it, you start to feel like a pest, but honestly, we’re the ones living with the thing. Sometimes I wonder if they’d say the same if it was their own mouth. Hang in there, and don’t feel weird about speaking up.

Yeah, the “it’s normal” line makes me want to scream. I kept thinking maybe I was just being dramatic, but it’s my mouth, right? I started jotting down every weird twinge or crunch - felt like a dental detective. Still paranoid I’ll get eye rolls at my next checkup, but better safe than sorry...

I get what you mean about not wanting to feel dramatic. Have you ever actually pushed back at your dentist about it? I started bringing a list of my symptoms and just handed it over - felt silly, but at least I knew I wouldn’t forget anything. Do you feel like they really listen when you mention the little stuff?
