EATING SOUP FOR WEEKS: HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO CHEW NORMAL FOOD AGAIN?

I totally get being nervous about moving on from soup. I waited almost two weeks before even thinking about chewing, just because that “zingy” nerve feeling made me so anxious. Did you have any swelling or weird pressure when you tried those soft foods? I kept worrying I’d mess something up if I chewed too soon...

I totally worried about that too, especially since I was trying to avoid another appointment (and more bills). When I moved from soup to mashed potatoes and scrambled eggs, I noticed a little swelling but no real pain. Did you try things like yogurt or cottage cheese first? I found chewing on the opposite side helped, but honestly, I waited until that zingy feeling chilled out. It’s hard not to overthink it, especially when you’re watching your wallet and don’t want a setback.

Funny, I actually jumped to soft bread and pasta before trying yogurt or cottage cheese. For me, the texture of yogurt felt weird with a sore mouth—maybe I’m just picky. Swelling freaked me out too, but my dentist said some puffiness is normal unless there’s real pain or heat. I get wanting to avoid another bill, but sometimes waiting too long made me more anxious than just checking in. Everyone heals so differently...

Totally get what you mean about the swelling. I kept poking at my cheek in the mirror like it was gonna suddenly balloon up or something. And yeah, yogurt just felt off for me too—something about that cold, gloopy texture when your mouth is all sore... not a vibe.

I was weirdly okay with pasta, but bread took me forever to try again. The fear of biting down and feeling that zingy pain was real. Did you find soft bread actually worked for you? I always thought it’d get stuck.

I hear you on the anxiety vs. dentist bill thing. Sometimes I’d rather just pay for peace of mind, but other times I’d convince myself it’s “probably fine” and then spiral a bit. Why is healing from dental stuff so unpredictable? Some people are back to burgers in days and I’m over here still measuring soup temperature like a chemist.

Hope you’re feeling better by now—just wanted to say you’re definitely not alone in this weird food limbo!

Pasta was my go-to too, but bread just felt like a gamble—especially anything with a crust. I do think some folks bounce back quicker because of how their bodies handle inflammation or pain, but honestly, there’s no “normal” timeline. Did you ever try chewing on the opposite side, or did that just make things worse for you?
