my dentist warned me vaping could mess up my smile, but I didn't think much of it until yesterday.

I've gotta agree with you on the hydration thing. Gum and lozenges always seemed more like a temporary fix to me, too. When I started having dry mouth problems (medication-related, not vaping), my dentist gave similar adviceβ€”basically said artificial sweeteners can be sneaky troublemakers if you're popping gum all day long.

But here's what really made a noticeable difference for me: switching toothpaste brands. Sounds random, I know, but certain toothpastes have ingredients that dry out your mouth even more (like sodium lauryl sulfate). I found a gentler one without SLS, and it genuinely helped cut down dryness noticeably. Plus, it's pretty budget-friendly compared to constantly buying gum or special lozenges.

Not saying it's the magic bullet for everyone...but might be worth checking out alongside upping water intake and using a humidifier. Sometimes it's those little changes that add up to the best long-term solutions.

That's interesting about the toothpasteβ€”I hadn't even thought of that. When I had dry mouth issues (also medication-related), my dentist suggested Biotene mouthwash. It doesn't have alcohol, so it doesn't dry you out more, and it helped me a lot. But now I'm curious about the toothpaste thing...might give that a try too. Sometimes it's just trial and error until you find what works best for your own situation.

Biotene is great stuff, saved me a few times too. Funny you mentioned toothpaste, because I switched to a gentle, non-foaming one (Sensodyne Pronamel) when I had dry mouth issues, and it made a noticeable difference. Regular toothpaste can sometimes be harsh, especially if your mouth's already irritated. Definitely worth trying something milderβ€”like you said, it's all about experimenting to see what clicks. Hope you find relief soon...dry mouth is no fun at all.

Sensodyne's definitely gentler, but keep in mind it doesn't always tackle plaque buildup as aggressively as regular toothpaste. If dry mouth's persistent, pairing it with an alcohol-free antimicrobial rinse can help balance things out without irritation...worked well for some of my patients.
