Weirdly, chewing on the other side after a root canal can make your jaw sore

Muscle soreness is spot on - after my last root canal, I remember my jaw just refusing to cooperate for a while. Chewing on the “good” side felt like learning to eat all over again, and I swear even soup felt like a workout. Warm compresses helped, though I found gentle jaw stretches in the morning eased things too. Did anyone else notice their bite feeling off for a bit, or was that just me? Sometimes I wonder if it’s just the muscles being stubborn or if it’s something with the bite itself...

I always wonder if the “bite feels off” thing is partly in my head. After my root canal, I kept checking if my teeth lined up the same, like I was running a software update and waiting for a reboot. But honestly, the dentist said everything looked fine. Maybe the muscles just need to recalibrate, like when you switch from a regular mouse to a trackpad and your hand rebels for a week. Has anyone ever had the bite issue last more than a couple days? Mine sorted itself out pretty quick, but I still second-guess it every time I eat chips...

That’s exactly how it felt for me, too. After my first root canal, I kept biting down and thinking, “Wait, is that new? Was that tooth always there?” It’s weird how your brain just fixates on it. My dentist also said my bite was fine, but my jaw felt sore for almost a week - probably from chewing on the other side like you mentioned. I still get nervous with crunchy stuff. Guess our jaws just need time to trust us again...

I totally get the “software update” vibe - my brain was on a weird feedback loop after my root canal, too. I kept poking at the tooth with my tongue like it was some new gadget I hadn’t figured out. Did you ever get that random zing when you tried to chew something crunchy? I swear, even a potato chip felt risky for a while. My jaw got sore on the “good” side, but it went away after a bit. Guess it’s just muscle memory relearning things... or maybe I was just overthinking every bite.

I totally relate to poking at the tooth - mine felt like it didn’t belong for days. About the zing, yeah, I got that too, especially with anything cold or crunchy. Honestly, I think the jaw soreness is more than just muscle memory. When you chew only on one side, those muscles get overworked, and the bite balance is off. My dentist said it’s pretty common, but I still wonder if it’s a sign we’re compensating too much. I kept second-guessing every bite for weeks... probably didn’t help.
