- Honestly, mashed potatoes are fine, but

“microwave mac and cheese until it’s almost soup”
sounds like a texture nightmare after a day or two.
- I switched to smoothies—frozen fruit, yogurt, and some protein powder. Way less risk of stuff getting stuck, and you can sip it on the go.
- Mashed potatoes get old fast. At least with smoothies, you can change up the flavors, plus it feels a bit healthier.
- Tried soup too, but cleaning braces after tomato soup... not fun.

Microwave mac and cheese as soup... yeah, that’s a hard pass for me too. Texture just goes downhill after day one, and I swear the stuff clings to brackets like glue. I get why smoothies are popular—super convenient, easy to mix things up, and less of a hassle with cleaning. But honestly, I found that cold drinks made my teeth ache way more those first few days. Maybe it’s just me, but even room temp smoothies felt weird.

I actually leaned into soft scrambled eggs—sounds basic, but you can add cheese or herbs so it’s not boring, and they don’t stick nearly as much as potatoes or pasta. Plus, way less sugar than most smoothies, which my dentist seemed happy about. Soup was hit or miss for me too; anything tomato-based left my bands stained pink for days... not the look I was going for.

It’s wild how everyone finds their own “safe” food after braces go on. Sometimes the old standbys just don’t work out like you expect.

Funny how true this is. I was convinced mashed potatoes would be my savior, but after a couple days it felt like eating glue—plus, I got so tired of the taste. Scrambled eggs were my go-to too, but sometimes I’d mix in cottage cheese for extra protein. And don’t even get me started on tomato soup... my elastics turned a weird orange that wouldn’t budge for weeks. Honestly, nothing prepares you for the weird food textures and colors you end up dealing with. It’s trial and error, for sure.

That whole thing about tomato soup staining elastics is something I never even considered... Now I’m kind of nervous to try anything with a strong color. I always thought mashed potatoes would be the easiest, but you’re right, after a while it just gets old and weirdly sticky. I’m still in the “figuring out what doesn’t hurt” phase, and it’s honestly more confusing than I expected. Makes me feel better knowing everyone has to experiment a bit before finding what works.

Same here. I thought I’d just eat mashed potatoes and yogurt for a week and be fine, but even those started to feel weird after a couple days. I tried tomato soup too (big mistake—my clear bands went orange). I’ve been making lists of what works and what doesn’t, but it’s like every meal is a science experiment. I never realized how much texture matters until now... scrambled eggs are my new go-to, but even then, sometimes they get stuck in the brackets and it’s just awkward.
