wrist braces at night—splint style or compression sleeve?

Been dealing with wrist pain lately, especially when sleeping. I tried one of those rigid splint braces first, and it definitely helps keep my wrist straight, but it's kinda bulky and uncomfortable at times. Recently switched to a compression sleeve type brace, way more comfy but I'm not sure if it's giving me enough support. Curious if anyone else has tried both and which you ended up liking better?

I've actually been dealing with something similar lately, and I totally get what you're saying about the rigid splints being bulky. I tried one for a couple of weeks, and while it definitely kept my wrist stable, I found myself waking up multiple times a night just because it felt so awkward. Eventually, I switched to a compression sleeve too, thinking comfort would help me sleep better.

But honestly... after a few nights, I started noticing that the sleeve wasn't really doing much to keep my wrist in a neutral position. It felt nice and snug at first, but by morning my wrist was usually bent again, and the pain didn't really improve much. So even though the rigid brace was uncomfortable at first, I ended up going back to it because it seemed to actually address the underlying issue better.

One thing that helped me adjust was experimenting with different brands and styles of rigid braces. Some are definitely less bulky than others—there are slimmer designs out there that still offer solid support without feeling like you're wearing armor to bed. Also, adjusting the straps carefully made a huge difference for me; too tight and it's uncomfortable, too loose and it's pointless.

Another thing worth mentioning is that if your wrist pain is persistent or getting worse, it might be worth checking in with a doctor or physical therapist. I was pretty anxious about seeing someone at first (never had wrist issues before), but honestly it was reassuring to get some professional guidance. They gave me some simple exercises and stretches that have helped alongside using the brace.

Anyway, just wanted to share my experience since I've been through both options recently. Hope you find something that works well for you soon—wrist pain can be surprisingly disruptive!

Yeah, this was exactly my experience too. Took some trial and error to find that sweet spot. Also, have you tried braces with softer padding inside? My daughter had a similar issue, and switching to one with gel padding really helped—still rigid enough for support, but way more comfortable. Curious if anyone else found specific padding materials better for sleeping?

Totally relate to the strap struggle, took me ages to figure out the right tension too. I haven't tried gel padding yet, but it sounds promising. I did switch from a rigid splint to one with memory foam lining, and that made a noticeable difference for me. It molds nicely around the wrist without feeling bulky or restrictive. Still, some nights I wake up and need to readjust it slightly—guess there's no perfect solution, huh?

Also, I've noticed that breathable fabric helps a lot. My first brace was kinda plasticky and made my wrist sweaty and itchy overnight...not fun at all. Switching to something softer and more breathable was a game changer comfort-wise.

Anyway, glad you found something that works better for your daughter. It's always reassuring when you finally land on something that helps you (or your kid) sleep comfortably through the night.

Yeah, breathable fabric is a must for me too. I tried a cheaper brace from Amazon that was kind of plasticky, and it made my wrist hot and itchy pretty quickly. The memory foam lining sounds interesting, haven't seen one of those yet—might look into that. Right now I'm using a compression sleeve mostly because it's affordable and comfy, but I do wonder if I'm sacrificing some support for comfort...still figuring this out, I guess.
