I hear you on this—after my first root canal, I babied that tooth like it was made of glass. Wouldn’t touch anything crunchier than mashed potatoes for a week, even though my dentist kept saying it was fine. Turns out, the tooth felt stronger than before once the soreness faded. Still, I’m not about to test fate with hard candy either... old habits die hard. Funny how we’ll walk around on creaky knees but treat our molars like rare china.

That’s so relatable—it’s wild how cautious we get after dental stuff. My kid just had their first root canal (honestly, I was way more nervous than they were) and I kept double-checking everything they ate. Did you ever worry about them biting down wrong or did you just let them eat whatever? Our dentist said soft foods for a couple days, but I still hovered like a hawk.

The weird thing is, once the tenderness faded, my kid was back to normal way faster than I expected. I guess we worry more than necessary? Still, I totally get being wary of hard candy. Why risk it, right? Funny how we’ll let our kids skateboard or play soccer but a crunchy chip after dental work feels like a huge gamble. Do you think that extra caution actually helps recovery, or is it just peace of mind for us?

You know, I actually wonder if we overdo it with the hovering. After my own root canal, I was so paranoid about eating the wrong thing that I barely touched anything besides yogurt and mashed potatoes for days… but looking back, I think I might’ve made myself more stressed than necessary. The dentist said soft foods, sure, but they didn’t act like biting down by mistake would ruin everything. Maybe we just want to feel like we’re protecting our kids (or ourselves), but sometimes I think the body is tougher than we give it credit for.

I get the whole “no hard candy” thing—definitely not worth chancing a cracked tooth—but at some point, isn’t it okay to trust that the work will hold up? My friend’s kid was eating pizza the next day and was totally fine. Am I just being extra anxious, or is there a real risk in not being super careful? It’s weird how we’ll let them do all sorts of risky stuff, but one wrong bite feels like a disaster waiting to happen. Maybe it’s more about us needing to feel in control than the actual recovery.

I get where you’re coming from. After my root canal, I was super strict with myself too—literally lived off applesauce and oatmeal for a week, and honestly, it was probably overkill. My dentist said “soft foods” but didn’t act like one wrong bite would send me back to square one. I think a lot of it is just nerves and wanting to avoid any chance of pain after finally getting some relief. I’ve seen people go back to pretty normal eating way faster than I did, and they were totally fine. Maybe our teeth (and the dental work) are sturdier than we give them credit for... though I still draw the line at popcorn kernels.

That sounds a lot like my experience—except I caved and had mashed potatoes for every meal. Honestly, I was convinced the tooth would shatter if I even looked at a cracker. Looking back, I probably could’ve relaxed a bit sooner. My dentist basically said “just don’t go nuts,” but yeah, popcorn kernels are where I draw the line too. Some foods just aren’t worth risking another trip to the chair...
