Does mouthwash with alcohol actually work better, or nah?

My gums are happier, and my breath doesn’t smell like I’ve been drinking at noon. Comfort wins every time.

Same here. I tried the alcohol ones for a while because I thought they’d be “stronger,” but honestly, my mouth just felt dry and weird. Plus, with braces, anything that irritates my gums is a no-go. The non-alcohol stuff is way gentler, and I don’t miss that burning feeling at all. Guess it’s not always about the harshest option being better...

I used to think the burning meant it was killing more germs or something, but after a few weeks with alcohol mouthwash, my gums felt kind of raw. And yeah, that dry mouth thing is real—my lips would stick to my teeth like glue. Now I just use the gentle stuff. Maybe it’s not “stronger,” but my breath is still fine and I’m way less paranoid about accidentally hurting my gums. Sometimes less is more, I guess…

That dry mouth thing drove me nuts too—felt like my tongue was stuck to the roof of my mouth half the day. Did you notice any difference with tartar or plaque after switching to the gentle rinse, or was it just about comfort?

Totally get what you mean. The dryness was unbearable for me, especially with braces. I switched to a gentle rinse mostly for comfort, but honestly, I didn’t see much change in plaque or tartar. My teeth still felt clean, just without that burning sensation. Did you notice your breath stayed fresher, or was it more about not feeling like a desert in your mouth? Sometimes I wonder if the “stronger” stuff is worth the trade-off.

Honestly, I’ve tried both—those alcohol mouthwashes always made my mouth feel like the Sahara, especially when I was dealing with canker sores or after dental work. The “gentler” ones don’t give that harsh tingle, but my breath didn’t stay fresh for as long. I kinda miss that super clean feeling, even if it was a bit much. Guess it depends on what bugs you more: dry mouth or not-so-minty breath. For me, I’d rather avoid the burn and just brush/floss more often.
