Honestly, I get what you mean about sticking to the same foods—my anxiety goes through the roof if I think something’s gonna cause my kid pain or get stuck in their braces. I’ve been pretty hesitant to switch things up, even just changing from wheat to white bread felt like a risk at first. Maybe I’m overthinking, but every new thing I put in their lunch, I’m picturing an emergency call from the school nurse...

I did try some different yogurts though, mostly because my kid got sick of the usual vanilla. Greek yogurt was a no-go (too thick, apparently), but switching up flavors helped a bit. I haven’t really branched out with bread brands yet—just stuck with the softest one we found after a lot of squishing loaves at the store.

About preferences changing: it’s been kind of all over the place. At first, anything remotely chewy or crunchy was off-limits. After a few months, my kid started asking for stuff like soft tortillas instead of regular bread, and even wanted to try thinly sliced deli meats again. But then there are days when they just want applesauce and mashed potatoes... so I never really know what’s coming next.

I keep wondering if I should be more adventurous with lunches, but then I second-guess myself because I don’t want to deal with broken brackets or complaints about sore teeth. Has anyone else had issues with “safe” foods suddenly becoming uncomfortable again after tightening appointments? That’s happened to us a couple times and it totally threw off whatever routine we’d settled into.
