Frozen peas are a classic, but I actually found frozen corn kernels worked even better—smaller pieces, easier to mold around my jaw. Did anyone else experiment with different veggies, or am I just weirdly particular about my produce ice packs...?
Frozen corn sounds smart, wish I'd thought of that earlier. I went straight for frozen peas because that's what everyone recommended, but honestly, they felt kinda bulky and awkward. Ended up switching to a bag of frozen blueberries—smaller size, easier to mold, and bonus points for smelling nice as they thawed a bit, haha. Only downside was the slight paranoia about staining my pillowcase purple if the bag leaked...but thankfully no disasters. You're definitely not alone in getting particular about produce ice packs; when your jaw feels like it's doubled in size, comfort matters!

Blueberries sound nice in theory, but weren't you worried about the condensation making them mushy and leaking juice? I stuck with peas precisely because they're bulky—seemed to hold the cold longer. Did anyone else find smaller produce thawed too quickly? Curious if there's a sweet spot between comfort and effectiveness...

I get the appeal of blueberries, especially the nice scent factor, but yeah, smaller produce definitely thawed quicker for us too. We tried frozen corn once (ran out of peas, desperate times...) and it was surprisingly comfortable because of the size, but it warmed up way too fast. Ended up switching back to peas for effectiveness. Maybe something like edamame beans would hit that sweet spot—small enough to mold comfortably but dense enough to stay cold longer? Has anyone tried those?

Haha, frozen corn sounds like a valiant effort! I totally get the desperation—been there myself. Edamame beans actually sound pretty genius, honestly. They're dense enough that they might hold onto the cold longer without turning into mushy juice bombs. Haven't personally tried them yet, but now I'm curious...
When I had my wisdom teeth out (not exactly gum surgery, but close enough), I went through a similar produce-ice-pack crisis. Peas were my go-to at first, but after a while, the smell of thawed peas kinda started getting to me. Weirdly enough, I ended up using those little reusable gel packs—they mold nicely and stay cold forever. But I did miss the satisfying squishiness of frozen veggies somehow.
One time, my sister recommended using frozen grapes in a baggie because they're small enough to mold around your jawline comfortably. Sounded brilliant until they thawed slightly and turned into mini water balloons... not my finest moment. 😂
Has anyone else experimented with non-veggie alternatives? Like maybe rice-filled socks tossed in the freezer or something? I'm wondering if there's some secret DIY ice pack solution I haven't stumbled onto yet...
