Blended foods are easy to sip, but how do you manage the texture?

After oral surgery, does a smoothie actually feel easier to manage than a thicker puree, or can the liquid texture be irritating around the surgical site? I’m also wondering about cleanup: a thinner drink may be easier to swallow, but could it leave more residue around the area than food eaten slowly from a spoon.
I know sipping from a cup isn’t the same as using a straw, and suction restrictions can depend on the procedure and the surgeon’s instructions. For people who’ve had different kinds of oral surgery, what texture and eating method felt manageable without going beyond the guidance you were given?

A thinner smoothie isn’t automatically easier to manage: it can spread quickly in the mouth, while a thicker puree may move more slowly but take more effort to clear. So “easier to swallow” and “leaves less residue” may not point to the same texture, and what’s manageable can vary with the procedure and the surgeon’s instructions.
