Would you freak out if your stitches took longer to dissolve?

I definitely fell down the Google rabbit hole on dissolving times—turns out, it’s different for everyone. Some of mine hung around for almost two weeks, and I started to wonder if they were ever going to leave.

That’s totally normal—those stitches can really test your patience. I’ve seen people worry about them for days, only for them to suddenly disappear overnight. The tightening is just your tissue healing, not a sign you’re about to unravel everything with a bite of toast. As long as you’re not seeing redness or swelling, you’re in the clear. Tortilla chips, though... probably best to save those for a little later.

Totally relate. Mine felt weirdly tight for over a week, and I was convinced something was off. Turned out it was just the healing process—no drama, no unraveling. Patience is key, even if it’s tough sometimes.

I totally get the impatience, especially when you’re trying to avoid extra appointments (and bills). I had dissolvable stitches hang around for almost three weeks after a wisdom tooth removal. Wasn’t fun, but the dentist said it can vary a lot depending on the material and your body. Did you guys notice if eating certain foods made it feel tighter? I stuck to soft stuff mostly, but honestly, I was tempted to test it with toast too...

I remember having dissolvable stitches after a gum graft, and honestly, I was always paranoid about food getting stuck or pulling on them. Soft foods felt safer, but I did try a cracker once and instantly regretted it—felt like everything tightened up. Did anyone else notice extra swelling when they ate something chewy?

I actually had the opposite experience—chewier foods didn’t really make things worse for me, but anything crunchy was a nightmare. I tried to stick with stuff like mashed potatoes and yogurt since I was worried about cost if I needed a follow-up. The swelling only got bad when I accidentally poked at the stitches with my tongue… not my brightest move. Maybe it’s just different for everyone?
