I get where you’re coming from about the lists maybe being a bit much, but honestly, I think there’s a reason they’re so strict. Even something as “harmless” as chamomile can have unpredictable effects, especially if you’re on other meds or have allergies you might not even know about. I had a friend who brushed off the pre-surgery instructions and ended up with a delayed appointment because they found out last minute she’d had an herbal supplement. It just threw off the whole schedule. Personally, I’d rather be a little over-cautious and not risk anything, even if it feels like overkill. The rules are there for a reason, you know?

Those lists can feel overwhelming, but I get why they’re so detailed. I remember once thinking a little green tea wouldn’t hurt—turns out it messed with my blood pressure that day. It’s frustrating, but I’d rather play it safe and not risk having to reschedule everything. It’s just one less thing to worry about when you’re already feeling anxious.

That’s a really good point about the lists—they might seem like overkill, but there’s usually a reason behind each rule. I’ve seen people react to things you’d never expect, like certain herbal teas or even vitamins, especially when anesthesia is involved. Even mouthwash can sometimes be a problem if it contains alcohol. I get frustrated too, but honestly, following the prep instructions does make surgery day way less stressful. It’s one of those times where being extra careful pays off.

I still remember one patient who swore by her “all-natural” supplements—turns out, she was taking a ginseng extract that messed with her blood pressure. We ended up postponing her wisdom teeth removal because of it. I get anxious just thinking about what could go wrong if folks skip those checklists. Curious—did anyone here ever have to stop something surprising before surgery? Like, not just food or drink, but something you didn’t expect?

You’re not alone there. I still get nervous when patients mention herbal teas or “natural” remedies—they seem harmless but can really mess things up. One time, I had to stop a patient’s turmeric capsules. Never expected that, but it interfered with clotting. It’s honestly wild how many things can throw a wrench in the works. Those checklists are there for a reason, even if they feel over the top sometimes.
