I've had my retainer for a while now, and lately I've noticed it has this kinda funky smell even after brushing it. I mean, it's not terrible or anything, but it's definitely noticeable and kinda embarrassing when I take it out around other people. I've tried toothpaste and mouthwash, but neither really seems to help much. Someone mentioned soaking it in vinegar or baking soda, but I'm a bit hesitant cause I don't wanna damage it or something.

Has anyone else dealt with this? Any tricks or home remedies that actually work without ruining the retainer? I'm open to pretty much anything at this point cause, um...it's getting awkward.

Totally been there with the funky retainer smell... toothpaste never really worked for me either. I started soaking mine in a mix of warm water and baking soda once a week, and honestly, it made a huge difference. No damage or anything yet, fingers crossed!

Ugh, retainers... I tried baking soda too, but got paranoid it'd scratch mine up. Now I just soak it in denture cleaner tablets every few days—smells way better and feels safer somehow. Still kinda gross tho, lol.

My daughter had the same issue—she hated the smell too, lol. We ended up using a mix of denture tablets and occasionally soaking it in diluted mouthwash. Worked pretty well, and she complained way less after that. Worth a shot maybe?
