root canal dilemma—specialist or regular dentist?

I've got a tooth that's been bugging me for weeks now, and after finally dragging myself to the dentist, she said it looks like I'm gonna need a root canal. Ugh. Anyway, she offered to do it herself (she's a general dentist, but says she does root canals pretty regularly) or refer me to an endodontist, who specializes in this kinda thing.

So now I'm stuck trying to decide. On one hand, my dentist is pretty chill, I've been going to her for years, and she's done fillings and crowns for me before with no issues. It'd be convenient and probably cheaper to just have her do it. But on the other hand...it's a root canal, you know? Not exactly a walk in the park. Part of me feels like maybe I should just suck it up and see the specialist, even if it's more expensive and means another appointment somewhere else.

I've never had one before, so I'm kinda clueless here. Is it worth going to the specialist, or is it fine to stick with the regular dentist if she's confident? Curious what other people have done and how it turned out for you.

Had a similar situation last year—my dentist offered, but I ended up going with the specialist. Honestly, it wasn't as scary as I expected. If your dentist is confident though, you're probably fine either way...just depends how much peace of mind you want.

Went through this myself a couple years back and stuck with my regular dentist. She was super confident about it, and honestly, it turned out fine—way less drama than I'd built up in my head, lol. But yeah, if you're feeling anxious, specialist might ease your mind a bit more.
