How Long Should a Dental Crown Feel Weird?

Just got a dental crown put in yesterday, and I'm kinda wondering how long it's supposed to feel...you know, off? It's not exactly painful, but it feels sorta bulky and weird when I bite down. My dentist said it might take a few days to get used to, but I'm curious if that's normal or if maybe the crown wasn't placed quite right.

Eating lunch today was an adventure—felt like my teeth didn't line up properly. I keep poking at it with my tongue too, which probably isn't helping things, lol. Anyone else had this experience? How long did it take before your crown felt natural again? Or should I be heading back to the dentist sooner rather than later?

Honestly, I'd say if your bite feels noticeably off, it's worth getting it checked sooner rather than later. Dentists often say "give it a few days," but from experience, crowns shouldn't mess with your alignment that much. Better safe than sorry...just my two cents.

Totally agree with you on this one. A crown might feel a bit odd at first, but it shouldn't cause your bite to feel significantly off or uncomfortable for more than a day or two. I've heard from others who've waited it out, only to end up needing adjustments anyway. Better to have your dentist take a quick look now rather than risk potential issues down the line... Teeth alignment is delicate, and even minor shifts can lead to discomfort or other problems later.

I had a similar experience with my crown a while back. At first, I thought it was just me being overly sensitive or something, but after about four days of discomfort, I went back to my dentist and it turned out the crown needed a slight adjustment. It was amazing how much difference just a tiny tweak made—I felt relief almost immediately.

I agree that teeth alignment can be really sensitive, and even small changes can feel huge. But I'm curious, has anyone here noticed if the type of crown material makes a difference in how quickly you adjust? Mine was porcelain, but I've heard from friends who got metal crowns that theirs felt fine almost immediately. Wondering if there's something to that or if it's just coincidence...

Had a crown done a couple years ago, and I remember that bulky feeling all too well. Felt like I was chewing on someone else's tooth for about a week—kept poking at it nonstop, drove myself nuts. Turned out mine was fine, just took longer to adjust than I expected. Interesting point about materials though...mine was porcelain too. Now I'm wondering if metal really does feel more natural faster, or if my mouth's just picky.
