Which is rougher: getting a crown or recovering from a root canal?

I totally get the food thing—I was worried about that too. Honestly, the root canal wasn’t as bad as I expected, pain-wise. The numbness after was weird but manageable. For me, the crown part just felt awkward for a few days, like something bulky in my mouth, but not really painful. Eating normally took about a week, maybe less? Chewing on the other side helped until everything settled down. The anticipation was worse than the actual procedures for me.

I get what you mean about the numbness—it’s such a strange feeling, right? For me, the root canal recovery was actually less annoying than adjusting to the new crown. I kept noticing the edge with my tongue for days. Did you have any sensitivity with hot or cold after the crown went on? I had a couple zings, but nothing major. I agree though, most of my stress was before the appointments even started.

That edge drove me nuts, too. My tongue just couldn’t leave it alone, like it was a new toy or something. I had some hot/cold sensitivity for about a week after the crown went on—mostly with ice cream (of course!). Weirdly, the root canal itself was a breeze compared to all my anxious overthinking beforehand. I think my brain made it out to be way scarier than it actually was.

That tongue thing is so real—mine just kept poking at the new crown like it was trying to solve a mystery or something. I actually found the crown part tougher than the root canal, which surprised me. The root canal was over before I knew it, but the weird feeling from the crown edge lingered for days. I still flinch a bit with anything too cold, but it’s getting better. Funny how our brains hype up dental stuff way more than needed.

This cracked me up because my tongue does the exact same thing every single time. Honestly, I’ve had more crowns than I can count and they always feel “off” for a bit—like my mouth knows there’s an intruder. For me, the root canal is way easier. Once the numbness wears off, that’s it. But a crown? Takes days to stop feeling weird, and sometimes I have to go back for an adjustment if the bite isn’t right. Cold sensitivity sticks around too, but it does fade. Our brains do love to make a big deal out of dental work, but I’d still take a root canal over the aftermath of a new crown any day.
