How often do you actually see your dentist?

Did your dentist ever say if your braces make things riskier for cavities?

That’s what I’m worried about, honestly. I just got braces a few months ago and now I’m paranoid about missing a spot when I brush. Is it really that easy to get a cavity with them? How do you even know if something’s wrong before it gets bad?

I get what you mean about being paranoid with braces—honestly, I was the same way at first. But I don’t think it’s as risky as some people make it sound if you’re careful. I actually asked my dentist if I needed to come in more often, and they said as long as I’m brushing and flossing well (I use those little brushes for between the wires), it’s not that different from regular teeth. I don’t go for extra cleanings or anything, just stick to the usual schedule to save money. If something feels off—like sensitivity or a weird taste—I’d call, but otherwise I just keep an eye out.

Honestly, I still get nervous skipping an extra cleaning. After a bad cavity scare years ago, I started going every 4 months just for peace of mind... even though my dentist says it’s not really necessary. Maybe it’s overkill, but I can’t help worrying something might sneak up on me.

I totally get that worry—once you’ve had a bad cavity, it’s hard to relax about checkups. I used to be pretty obsessive too, especially when I had braces. My dentist said twice a year is fine, but honestly, if going more often helps you feel better, why not? Sometimes peace of mind is worth it.

Twice a year is the official line, but after a root canal a few years back, I started going three times just to keep my nerves in check (and my teeth, I guess). My dentist laughed and said I was being “overly enthusiastic,” but hey, better safe than sorry, right? Anyone else get that weird guilt when they haven’t flossed for a week and suddenly remember they have an appointment coming up?
