Stuff I never thought to ask my dentist (but probably should)
Haha, the “just a minor annoyance” line gets me every time - like, sure, until I can’t chew a sandwich without wincing. I had a similar thing after my wisdom teeth came out. For weeks, my jaw just clicked every time I yawned. Dentist shrugged it off, but it drove me nuts. Ever wonder if those little clicks and pops are harmless or if we’re all just ignoring future jaw drama?
Clicks and pops in the jaw are so weird - sometimes I feel like my face is trying to send me a secret message. My jaw started clicking after I got braces off, and honestly, it freaked me out for a bit. My dentist also didn’t seem too worried, but I kept thinking, what if it’s the start of something bigger? I mean, it’s not painful now, but sometimes I wonder if ignoring these little things could come back to bite us (pun intended).
Do you ever notice it getting worse with stress or chewing gum? I realized mine flares up when I’m stressed out or chewing on pens (bad habit, I know). Makes me curious if these “minor” annoyances are just our jaws being quirky or if we should actually be doing something about them... Like, is there a point where you’d go back to the dentist and push for more answers?
Jaw clicks are such a weird thing - I remember after my Invisalign trays, I noticed this subtle pop every time I yawned. It got worse during finals week, probably because I was clenching my jaw without realizing. My dentist brushed it off too, but I sometimes wonder if it’s worth getting a second opinion, especially since I grind my teeth at night. Have you ever tried one of those night guards or bite splints? Curious if they actually help with the clicking or just the grinding...
Night guards are mostly for grinding, but they can sometimes help with the clicking too - depends on what’s actually causing it. I’ve used a custom one for years. It definitely cut down on my jaw soreness and headaches, but the click’s still there when I open wide or yawn. If it’s getting worse, a second opinion isn’t a bad idea. Sometimes dentists don’t take jaw stuff seriously enough, honestly.
I hear you on the jaw click - mine sounds like popcorn sometimes. I got a night guard for grinding, but honestly, it’s like my jaw just wants to perform its own soundtrack at night and in the morning. The soreness is better, but the clicking is just... still there. Has anyone ever had their dentist actually do anything about the click itself, or is it just “live with it and wear this plastic thing”? Wondering if I’m missing some secret jaw trick here.
