Reading your experience actually makes me feel a bit more relieved about choosing IV sedation for my daughter. She's only 12 and super anxious about dental procedures—honestly, so am I. Initially, we tried laughing gas during her filling appointment, thinking it'd be enough. But she was still pretty aware of the sounds and sensations, and afterward she told me it didn't really help much. So when the dentist said she needed an extraction, I started researching IV sedation.

I was hesitant at first because the idea of her being "put under" made me nervous, but hearing stories like yours helps ease my mind. The dentist explained step-by-step how IV sedation works: they'd give her medication through an IV line, she'd drift off quickly, and wouldn't remember much afterward. They also reassured me they'd monitor her closely the entire time, which was comforting to hear.

The only tricky part, like you mentioned, is arranging someone to drive us home and stay with her afterward. Thankfully, my husband was able to take the day off work, but I can see how that might be a challenge for others. Still, after weighing the anxiety factor against the inconvenience, IV sedation seemed like the safer choice for us.

Anyway, glad to hear your extraction went smoothly. It definitely helps to hear from others who've been through it, especially when you're dealing with anxiety (either your own or your kid's!). Thanks for sharing your experience—it really does make a difference.

We went through something similar with my younger brother—laughing gas just didn't cut it for him either. IV sedation ended up being a total game changer. He was pretty groggy afterward, but honestly, the relief of him not remembering the procedure or feeling anxious was worth it. Sounds like you've made a thoughtful choice, and having your husband around afterward will definitely help. Hope everything goes smoothly for your daughter!

I totally get the anxiety around this—I had my wisdom teeth out last year and went with IV sedation after hearing mixed things about laughing gas. Honestly, best decision ever. I barely remember anything, just waking up feeling super sleepy and a bit loopy afterward. Having someone there to help afterward is key though, so it's great your husband's around. I'm sure your daughter will do great...the anticipation is usually worse than the actual procedure. Good luck!

Reading this makes me feel a little better... I'm scheduled for an extraction next week and still debating IV vs laughing gas. IV sedation sounds reassuring, but needles really freak me out. Maybe I'll just close my eyes and pretend it's not happening...

Haha, that's pretty much what I did when I had mine out. Honestly, needles freak me out too, but IV sedation was surprisingly chill—felt like taking a super relaxing nap. The laughing gas is decent, but it doesn't always fully tune out what's going on around you... learned that the hard way when my dentist started humming along to the radio mid-extraction. Whatever you pick, you'll do fine—just maybe ask your dentist to skip the karaoke session.
