Are whitening gels really as harmless as the ads say?
I totally get the anxiety - those “squeaky clean” teeth after whitening always weirded me out too. I tried a gel once and followed the instructions to a T, but my teeth felt like they’d been sandblasted for days. Sensitivity is no joke. My cousin ignored the timing and left hers on way too long… let’s just say she was living on soup for a week. Maybe the strength matters, but I honestly think most people (me included) end up overdoing it or missing a step somewhere. I’d rather keep my enamel than chase that blinding white smile, honestly.
I kinda get where you’re coming from, but I actually had a pretty decent experience with the whitening strips. Maybe my teeth are just stubborn or something, but I barely noticed any sensitivity. I do wonder if it’s all about how strong the stuff is - or maybe I just got lucky. Still, the idea of soup-only meals sounds like a nightmare...
I totally relate to the soup-only fear - honestly, I was picturing myself slurping broth for days after trying the gel for the first time. But it wasn’t nearly as dramatic as I’d built it up in my head. I did get a little tingly feeling on my gums, but nothing wild. I guess everyone’s teeth react differently? My biggest worry was that I’d wake up with crazy sensitivity, but it just felt like a mild buzz for a bit and then faded.
It’s funny, because I’d read so many horror stories online about people not being able to eat ice cream or even breathe in cold air after using whitening stuff. Maybe it depends on how long you leave the strips on, or if your teeth are already sensitive? I’m usually super anxious about this kind of thing (like, I overthink even buying new toothpaste), but this wasn’t too bad.
Still, if someone told me I had to live on soup forever just for whiter teeth...yeah, hard pass.
