How do you know if it's teething or just a fussy baby?

Honestly, sometimes I think we overanalyze every bubble and whimper because we want an answer when really, babies are just unpredictable.

That hits home. I remember when my grandson was teething—my daughter swore by those teething charts, but honestly, half the time he’d be grumpy for days and nothing happened. Then suddenly a tooth would show up after a totally normal week. Makes me think sometimes you just have to roll with it and not stress too much about “signs.” Kids really do their own thing.

I get nervous about every little thing too, honestly. My youngest would drool and chew on everything for weeks, but the first tooth came out of nowhere during a calm spell. It’s tough not to overthink, but you’re right—sometimes it’s just a waiting game.

Totally get this. I used to stress about every sign—drooling, chewing, cranky days. But honestly, my oldest would act fussy for days and then...nothing. No tooth, just a mood. Sometimes I’d buy teething toys or remedies thinking it’d help, but most of the time it was just patience (and saving money) that worked out. It’s hard to tell what’s teething and what’s just a grumpy baby day.

Yeah, I can relate to that constant guessing game. I remember with my own, every time she started drooling or gnawing on her hands, I’d get all anxious, thinking a tooth was about to pop through. Sometimes I’d even check her gums with a flashlight, convinced I’d see something. Most of the time, it was just... nothing. Just regular baby fussiness.

I always thought teething would have these super obvious signs, but honestly, half the time it’s just a cranky day or a growth spurt. I used to worry I’d miss something important, but after a while, I realized there’s no surefire way to tell unless you actually see or feel that little tooth under the gum. I still kept teething rings in the freezer just in case, but I agree—most of the time, it’s more about waiting it out than buying every remedy on the shelf.

I do get a bit nervous about missing something more serious though, like an ear infection or something else. But yeah, sometimes babies are just... babies.

Yeah, I totally get that—sometimes you just can’t tell if it’s teething or if your kiddo’s just having a rough day. I remember thinking every little fuss or drool meant a new tooth, but half the time, it was just a phase. I’ve had braces as an adult and even then, my mouth would be sore for no reason, so I guess it makes sense babies can be cranky without a clear cause too. I used to overthink it, but now I try to just go with the flow unless something seems really off, like a fever that won’t quit. It’s such a guessing game.
