How do you know if it's teething or just a fussy baby?

Babies are mysterious little creatures. Half the time I feel like I’m trying to solve a puzzle with missing pieces.

That line just sums it up, doesn’t it? I swear, teething is like the world’s longest game of “Is it or isn’t it?” I remember when my niece was tiny—she’d get super clingy and chew on her fingers, and we’d all be peering in her mouth like detectives. Nada. Then the one time we were sure she just had a cold, boom, tooth.

Here’s what I wonder: do you ever actually see the gums look different before a tooth pops out? Some folks say you can spot swelling or a little white bump, but honestly, every time I looked, it just seemed like regular baby gums to me. Or maybe my “gums detective” skills are just lacking…

And snacks—yes, 100% agree. Sometimes I think the parents need the snacks more than the kids. Do you find anything actually helps with the fussiness, or is it just a wait-it-out situation most of the time?
