How do you know if it's teething or just a fussy baby?

But honestly, half the time I’m just guessing and hoping I’m not missing something big...

Totally get this—sometimes it feels like parenting is just a series of educated guesses. When my daughter was teething, she’d drool and gnaw on everything, but then she’d go off her food, and I’d start second-guessing myself too. I try to look for patterns, but honestly, even the “classic” signs aren’t always reliable. You’re definitely not alone in feeling unsure. Trusting your gut is underrated, in my opinion.

That’s so true—sometimes drooling and chewing are just how babies explore, not necessarily teething. Have you noticed any swollen gums or a bump under the gumline? That’s usually my go-to clue, but even then, it’s not foolproof.

I actually don’t trust the gum swelling thing much anymore. My daughter’s gums looked totally normal right up until her first tooth popped through—no bump, no redness. Sometimes I think we just overanalyze every little fuss... or maybe that’s just me?

Not just you—been there, analyzed that. My kid’s gums barely changed color and then bam, tooth. I used to check for swelling or redness like a detective, but honestly, teething signs can be all over the place. One day it’s drooling, next day it’s cranky city for no reason. I swear, babies keep us guessing on purpose... Just gotta roll with it sometimes.

Yeah, it’s tough to tell sometimes. For my oldest, teething was obvious—red cheeks, gnawing on everything, drool everywhere. My youngest? Just cranky and wouldn’t nap, no other signs. Sometimes I’d think it’s teething, then nothing would pop up for weeks. If you see a pattern (like every time they’re fussy, a tooth shows up a few days later), that helps... but honestly, sometimes they’re just in a mood. Babies are wild cards.
