Sometimes it really is just hunger or a bad nap, and other times, you spot that little white bump and go, “Oh, okay, it was teething after all.”
I totally relate to the second-guessing. I remember when my niece was teething—I swore every grumpy moment meant a new tooth. Turns out, half the time she just wanted her favorite blanket. I feel like I’m still just guessing with my own dental stuff, honestly... teeth are mysterious.
Teeth are seriously confusing, right? I’m always convinced I’ve figured out the “signs,” and then something totally random throws me. Like, my nephew drooled buckets for weeks and I kept thinking, okay, here comes a tooth… but nope, nothing for ages. Then when we’d all kind of stopped watching for it, suddenly there’s a little tooth poking through. It’s almost like they wait until you’re not looking.
I get really anxious about my own dental stuff too—like, is this pain just sensitivity or is it something worse? I wish there was some kind of obvious sign every time. With babies, it’s even trickier since they can’t say what’s up. Sometimes I think we overanalyze every fuss or weird sleep just because we’re hoping for an answer.
Do you ever find yourself second-guessing if it’s actually teething or just a mood thing? I feel like parents (and honestly, anxious patients like me) want there to be a clear checklist: drool + cranky + chewing = teething. But then again, sometimes it’s just gas or they’re bored or whatever. The only time I feel sure is when I actually see that little white bump on the gum… and even then, sometimes it disappears the next day!
I know some people swear by certain “teething” symptoms, but I’m not convinced there’s a universal pattern. Maybe it’s different for every kid? Or maybe we just notice more when we’re worried about it.
Anyway, does anyone else get nervous about their own teeth too? Like if you have a sore spot or something feels off—do you immediately assume the worst or try to wait it out? Teeth are honestly such drama queens sometimes...
Teething is such a wild card. I remember with my niece, everyone swore her crankiness was teething and then nothing happened for weeks—then suddenly, two teeth at once out of nowhere. I totally get the anxiety about your own teeth too. If I feel a twinge or weird spot, my brain immediately jumps to “root canal” even though it’s usually just sensitivity or something minor. It’s hard not to overthink every little thing, especially when you’ve had dental issues before. Teeth really do keep us guessing...
Man, I totally relate to that spiral of worry. With my kid, sometimes I’d convince myself every weird cry was teething—then nothing for ages. Turns out, sometimes she was just tired or gassy. For me, if there’s drooling, biting on everything, and red cheeks, it’s more likely teething... but even then, it’s a guessing game. As for my own teeth, one little ache and I’m googling worst-case scenarios. It’s so hard not to overthink when you’ve had dental drama before. Teeth just love to mess with us, huh?
Teeth really are the worst for mind games, right? I’ve been down that rabbit hole more times than I can count—especially after a couple of brutal root canals. With my oldest, I’d swear every drool puddle was a new tooth coming in, but half the time it was just... baby being a baby. I totally get the urge to overanalyze every twinge in my own mouth too. It’s wild how much dental stuff can mess with your head once you’ve had a bad experience. I still can’t always tell if it’s teething or just a cranky day, but I guess that’s just part of the ride.
