I thought frozen peas would be all gentle and moldable, but they got gross so fast. Maybe some people have a higher tolerance for that stuff, but honestly, who wants to smell like old veggies when you’re already stuck eating soup through a straw?

You nailed it—frozen peas are only good in theory. I tried them once and my whole face smelled like the back of the fridge. Not recommended unless you want to start craving casseroles. The gel packs from the pharmacy were a game changer for me too—way less mess and you can reuse them without worrying about weird odors.

About those instant snap ice packs... I found they’re a bit of a letdown. They get cold super fast but fizzle out just as quickly, maybe 15 minutes if you’re lucky? Not really worth it unless you’re desperate or on the go. Anyway, hang in there—it does get better, even if your pillow collection grows by three sizes in the process.

I totally get the frozen peas thing—my freezer still smells a little weird from when I tried that. I ended up switching to those blue gel packs too, and honestly, being able to just toss them back in the freezer without dealing with soggy veggie water was such a relief. One thing that surprised me was how much a soft neck pillow helped with sleeping upright. Not glamorous, but anything for a little comfort, right? Recovery’s rough, but the little wins add up.

I totally get the appeal of gel packs—they’re definitely less messy than peas. But honestly, I found the old-school frozen washcloth trick worked best for me. Just wet a few, toss them in the freezer, and rotate them out. No weird smells or leaks, and they mold to your jaw pretty well. Neck pillow is a solid call, though. I tried stacking regular pillows and just kept sliding down... not my best idea.

I actually had the opposite experience with frozen washcloths—they always ended up rock solid for me, and I felt like I was smushing a brick on my face. Maybe my freezer's just overzealous, who knows. The gel packs were a lifesaver because they stayed flexible and I could just wrap them in a thin towel if they got too cold.

But I totally agree about the neck pillow. That thing is underrated. My trick was one of those U-shaped travel pillows, and it kept my head propped at just the right angle without me sliding off every five minutes. I also tried the regular pillow stack and yeah, I woke up halfway down the bed more than once.

Funny enough, my biggest comfort hack was keeping a humidifier running at night. My mouth got so dry from breathing through it, and it made a difference with the soreness. Recovery is such a weird combo of trial and error... what works for one person just doesn’t for another.

Funny, the humidifier actually made things worse for me—woke up feeling like I was breathing soup. Maybe my room’s just too small? I did better with sipping water through a straw all night. Everyone’s got their own weird tricks, I guess.
