Hypothetically, if you tried extracting some herbal stuff at home—like oils or tinctures—and it went kinda wrong (maybe too strong or weird smell or something), how would you fix it?

Yeah, almond oil seems gentle enough, but wouldn't coconut oil be even better? I've heard it has natural antibacterial properties. Has anyone tried switching oils mid-process to fix a weird herbal extraction? Curious if that'd help or just make things messier...

I tried coconut oil once when my lavender infusion went sideways—thought it'd mellow things out. Honestly, it just ended up smelling like weird coconut sunscreen. Almond oil might've been gentler... but who knows, maybe I just panicked and added too much.

Coconut oil can definitely overpower delicate herbs like lavender, especially if you go heavy-handed. If you're stuck with a batch that's too strong or smells off, try diluting it gradually with a neutral oil like jojoba or grapeseed—these won't compete as much scent-wise. Almond oil's nice too, but some people find it slightly nutty. Next time, maybe start small and add more slowly... herbal infusions are kinda like cooking, easier to add than subtract, haha.

I've never tried coconut oil, but I did something similar with peppermint and olive oil once. Thought it'd be a nice homemade mouthwash alternative (braces make me paranoid about oral hygiene), but it turned out way too strong and kinda bitter. Is olive oil considered neutral enough for diluting, or is that part of why mine tasted off? I ended up tossing the whole batch because I was worried I'd mess up my braces somehow—probably overthinking it, but better safe than sorry. Anyway, does anyone know if grapeseed oil has any weird aftertaste or anything? I'm tempted to try again, but I really don't want another disaster sitting in my bathroom cabinet...

Olive oil definitely has its own flavor—it's subtle for cooking but can be pretty noticeable in oral care stuff. Grapeseed oil is lighter and more neutral tasting...but still, peppermint's strong stuff. I'd start with way less peppermint next time; braces or not, nobody wants mouthwash that burns their tastebuds off.
