Which is easier: healing from a simple extraction or a surgical one?

Honestly, I kinda had the opposite experience. My surgical extraction was rough for like two days, but then it got better way faster than when I had a “simple” one pulled. With the simple one, the hole took forever to close and I kept getting food stuck in it... super annoying. Pain-wise, both sucked but I think the healing part just depends on luck (and maybe how much you mess with it). The numbness thing is so weird though—totally agree there.

Funny, I had a pretty similar thing happen. My “easy” extraction turned out to be the one that lingered—felt like that hole just didn’t want to close up and I was forever fishing out little bits of food (not the most glamorous hobby). Meanwhile, the surgical one was brutal at first but healed surprisingly fast. Guess there’s no real predicting it... maybe it’s just the dental lottery. The numbness always throws me off, too—it’s like your mouth forgets how to be normal for a while.

That’s wild—my dentist told me a simple extraction would be no big deal, but now I’m kinda nervous after reading this. I keep worrying about food getting stuck or the hole not closing. At least it sounds like healing can be unpredictable either way? Guess I’ll just stock up on soft foods and cross my fingers. The numbness thing freaks me out too... I’m always scared I’ll accidentally bite my cheek or something.

I get the worry about food getting stuck—happened to me too, but a little salt water rinse really helped. Did your dentist mention using a syringe after a few days? The numbness is weird at first, but it wears off faster than you’d think. You’ll probably be surprised how quickly your mouth starts to feel normal again.

That’s been my experience too. I remember being so worried I’d drool or bite my tongue, but honestly, the sensation faded before I even got home. Did you notice any swelling after? For me, with the surgical extraction, the swelling was more of a hassle than the numbness.
