"Smoothies were tricky because the suction from straws can actually dislodge the blood clot that's forming in the extraction site"

Yup, learned that the hard way. Thought I was being clever with a milkshake... ended up with dry socket. Trust me, stick to spoonable stuff—your future self will thank you.

I get the caution around straws, but honestly, I had a totally different experience. After my wisdom teeth came out, I was super paranoid about dry socket (thanks to horror stories online), so I avoided straws completely at first. But after a few days of carefully spooning smoothies and yogurt, I just couldn't take it anymore—I missed the convenience.

What worked for me was using one of those wide smoothie straws and placing it way back in my mouth, bypassing the extraction sites entirely. I barely had to suck at all, just tilted my head back slightly and let gravity do most of the work. Never had any issues with dry socket or healing setbacks.

Not saying spoons aren't safer—they definitely are—but if you're careful and strategic about straw placement, you might not have to give up your milkshakes entirely. Everyone heals differently, so it's really about finding what works best for your own comfort level.

I was exactly the same—super anxious about dry socket because of all the horror stories online. I stuck to spoons religiously at first, but honestly, after a few days, I was so tired of yogurt and applesauce. I ended up doing something similar with a straw, but I used those cheap bendy ones from the dollar store (budget life, lol). Just angled it carefully and barely sucked at all. Worked fine for me too, but yeah, everyone's different...guess it's all about being cautious and listening to your body.

I mean, glad it worked out for you, but honestly that still sounds risky to me. When I had mine out, I was paranoid enough to avoid straws completely—even the bendy dollar-store kind, lol. Instead, I found smoothies worked great if I just tilted the cup back gently and let gravity do its thing. Took a bit longer, sure...but peace of mind was worth it. Guess I'm just overly cautious!

I totally get being cautious—honestly, I was the same way. I avoided anything remotely straw-like and stuck to spoon-feeding myself applesauce and yogurt for days, lol. Took about a week before things felt mostly normal again...hang in there, it gets better!
