Yeah, I get what you mean about the creamy pastes—they just feel like they’re actually doing something, even if it’s mostly in my head. Gels always seem to slip off my brush and end up in the sink, which is kind of annoying. I tried one of those “natural” gritty ones too (baking soda everywhere), and honestly, it felt like sandpaper. Do you think the foaming agents actually help clean, or is it just for show? I can’t decide if I’m being tricked by bubbles or not...

I legit wondered the same thing during my first dentist visit as an adult. My brain says “bubbles = clean,” but my dentist told me it’s mostly for the feels. The foam helps spread stuff around, but it’s not magic—just makes me feel less like I’m brushing with glue. Gritty pastes scare me though... last time, I thought I chipped a tooth, but turns out it was just a rogue oat from breakfast stuck in there.

I get where you’re coming from about the bubbles just being for show, but I’m not totally convinced they’re useless. I’ve had a few different brands over the years—some barely foam, some turn your mouth into a car wash—and honestly, the ones that foam up seem to get into all the nooks better. Maybe it’s psychological, but my teeth feel cleaner. I do avoid the extra gritty stuff though... once had a paste so abrasive it felt like sandpaper, and my gums weren’t happy. I’ll take a little foam over that any day.

I totally get what you mean about gritty pastes—some of them really can be a bit much. Foaminess does help spread things around, but it’s interesting how much “clean” is just a feeling sometimes. Have you noticed if your gums are happier with the creamier or gel types? Some folks find gels less irritating, but I’ve seen people swear by the classic creamy ones too.

I’ve been on the braces train for a while, and honestly, anything gritty is a no-go for me—those little bits get stuck everywhere. I used to think gel was too “fancy,” but now I swear my gums are less cranky with it. Creamy pastes sometimes feel like they leave a film behind, though maybe that’s just in my head. Anyone else notice their taste buds get super picky about flavors since getting brackets? I can’t even look at cinnamon toothpaste now...
