Yeah, teens definitely seem to trust their peers more sometimes. Clinical videos can feel overwhelming, especially if they're graphic or overly detailed. When I was considering braces as an adult (still am tbh), the videos the orthodontist showed me made me super anxious. But reading personal stories from people who'd been through it helped calm me down a bit...felt less clinical and more relatable.

Still, there's a downside to peer advice too. Like with these DIY braces hacks going viral—teens see friends or influencers doing something and assume it's safe without realizing the risks. Peer trust is great for reassurance, but it can also lead to misinformation spreading fast. That's probably why these horror stories keep popping up lately.

Maybe there's a middle ground? Orthodontists or dentists could share patient stories or testimonials in a casual way, rather than those intimidating clinical videos. Or even short interviews with teens who've had braces explaining what it was actually like—good and bad. That might help bridge the gap between relatable peer advice and accurate medical info.

I'm still nervous about getting braces myself, but hearing real experiences definitely helps me manage my anxiety better than watching procedures online...

Totally get what you're saying about personal stories being more reassuring. When I had braces, talking to friends who'd already gone through it helped me way more than those scary clinical vids. Wonder if orthodontists realize how intimidating those videos can feel...?

Yeah, those clinical vids always made things seem way scarier than they actually were. I remember watching one about wisdom teeth removal and nearly chickened out completely. But when I talked to my cousin who'd done it already, she was like "honestly, it's not that bad," and she was right. Orthodontists probably mean well, but maybe they forget how intimidating all that medical jargon and graphic detail can be...

I get what you're saying, but honestly, sometimes those scary vids serve a purpose. Back when I had braces, a friend tried some DIY rubber band trick he saw online and ended up seriously damaging his gums... orthodontists aren't just trying to scare us—they've seen the worst-case scenarios firsthand.

Yeah, those DIY hacks freak me out... I once tried whitening my teeth at home with some random baking soda trick online—my gums were sore for days. Learned my lesson; some things just aren't worth risking.
