RE: What’s the best way to clean a reusable dental pick’s handle connection?
A loose or cracked head, or visible corrosion at the joint, would be a reason to replace the pick rather than keep cleaning it. Those defects can make the connection unreliable or hard to clean, and brushing won’t repair...
RE: Daily mouthwash vs. regular dental checkups for keeping your mouth healthy?
I used to feel exactly like that - honestly, the sound of those tools still makes me tense up a bit. But after skipping cleanings for almost five years (life kept getting in the way), my first visit back wasn’t nearly as...
RE: Braces for kids: worth it or just a cosmetic thing?
That sounds about right - my grandkids had similar complaints, mostly about the food situation. I remember one of them saying “corn on the cob is dead to me,” which still makes me laugh. Honestly, the biggest hurdle seem...
RE: Weirdly, chewing on the other side after a root canal can make your jaw sore
That’s so relatable - my jaw felt like it was throwing a fit after my last root canal. I kept trying to “balance it out” by switching sides, but honestly, that just made things worse for a while. I wonder if the soreness...
RE: Tricks for feeling good about a “toothy” smile?
I get this all the time, honestly. In my bathroom mirror, I always feel like my smile looks softer, but the second I see a photo - especially with flash - my teeth seem to jump out way more than I expect. After getting a...
RE: Getting comfortable with a big smile even when your gums show
That really resonates. I spent years worrying about how my upper plate would shift if I laughed too hard - felt like everyone could see right through me. But honestly, the only person who ever mentioned it was my grandda...
RE: Tricks for feeling good about a “toothy” smile?
That’s spot on, really. I spent decades worrying about my partials slipping or my crowns looking “off,” but I swear, the only time anyone ever commented was when I wasn’t smiling at all. Funny how we fixate on our own te...
RE: braces vs clear aligners: which made you feel less self-conscious?
That’s interesting - my experience with clear aligners was similar, but in a slightly different way. I thought I’d love how “invisible” they were, but the constant need to pop them out (usually in some awkward public pla...
RE: Surviving the first week with a mouthful of metal
It’s funny you mention the cold foods - ice cream was my go-to after my first adjustment, and honestly, it felt like the only thing I could “chew” for days. I did try mashed potatoes once, but even those felt weird unles...
RE: What Helped Me Heal Faster After That Annoying Root Tip Surgery
That craving for crunchy snacks is real, right? I remember staring at a bag of pretzels for days after my surgery, just wishing. Saltwater rinses were my go-to as well - my oral surgeon said even gentle mouthwashes can i...
RE: Which is easier: healing from a simple extraction or a surgical one?
Definitely relate to the weirdness of stitches - I kept thinking I’d do something wrong just by yawning or sneezing. For me, surgical extractions always felt like they took twice as long to heal, and the swelling stuck a...
RE: Worth it to put protective coatings on kids’ teeth?
I hear you on the wish for clearer answers - dentistry always seems to have that “it depends” factor. When my kids were younger, I went back and forth about sealants too. Our dentist said they’re a good extra layer for m...
RE: Which is easier: healing from a simple extraction or a surgical one?
I get where you’re coming from - honestly, I had a similar reaction to all the paperwork and post-op rules the first time I had a surgical extraction. At first it felt like overkill, but looking back, that “mountain of i...
RE: Why is post-extraction care so confusing?
That second-guessing is the worst, isn’t it? I remember searching for “safe foods” after my extraction and getting totally conflicting info too. My oral surgeon said dairy was fine, but then you read something scary onli...
RE: Finally stopped my teeth from wiggling - here’s what worked for me
I’ve actually wondered about this too, because my dentist hasn’t made any big deal about my gums looking “healthier” since I switched to an electric brush with a pressure sensor. I mean, I like it - my teeth feel cleaner...
