RE: sleeping after jaw surgery is a nightmare
A humidifier can make dry mouth more tolerable, especially if mouth-breathing from swelling or congestion is part of it. It may not be the whole solution, though: dehydration and medicines such as pain relievers or antih...
RE: Quick fixes that helped me survive dry socket pain
I get what you mean about the taste - those medicated dressings are brutal. But honestly, I had a different experience with saltwater rinses. My oral surgeon actually told me to avoid them for a few days after the dry so...
RE: Finally flossing around my implants without fear - anyone else get nervous at first?
Totally relate to the bomb-defusing vibe. The first month or two, I was convinced I’d somehow ruin the whole thing just by flossing wrong. What helped me was switching to those little soft-pick brushes instead of regular...
RE: Swollen gums and braces: is this normal or just me?
That made me laugh because, honestly, it’s too real. My ortho warned me that swollen gums would happen if I didn’t stay on top of cleaning, but I didn’t realize how fast it sneaks up. Here’s what’s been working for me: 1...
RE: How do you get your kids to actually brush their teeth?
I get the appeal of the tech stuff - my youngest was obsessed with the brushing app for a while, and it definitely got him moving. But I started wondering if we were just trading one battle for another. Like, instead of ...
RE: Braces in your 30s: did you know teeth can move for life?
That tightness feeling is so real - I always thought it was just me overthinking it, but every time I skip my retainer for even a night, I notice it. My ortho mentioned the same thing about everyday habits shifting teeth...
RE: Keeping dentures fresh when you’re forgetful like me
I totally relate to the temptation of skipping brushing and just tossing my dentures in an ultrasonic bath, especially after a long day. Tried that for a week - bad idea. Ended up with weird buildup and a funky taste tha...
RE: Teenage son has 8 cavities; root canal??
That’s exactly what’s bugging me - my son hasn’t complained about pain, just mild sensitivity to cold stuff sometimes. Dentist showed us X-rays, but honestly, I couldn’t really tell what I was looking at. Eight cavities ...
RE: Toothpaste aisle overwhelm: how I pick what actually works
Totally relate to this. I always feel like I’m playing detective with my kid’s dental stuff - one day a toothpaste is fine, the next it stings. You’re right about plain versions being safer. Hang in there, you’re making ...
RE: Keeping pain at bay after wisdom tooth extraction: worth the fuss?
Totally agree on the saltwater rinses - they seemed boring at first, but honestly, they made a bigger difference for me than any of the “extras.” I did try those numbing gels once and felt like my whole mouth was just ti...
RE: What’s More Important To Ask: Pain Management Or Long-Term Tooth Health?
I get where you’re coming from about wanting relief right away - pain just takes over everything else. But I’ve started to wonder if that focus on immediate pain management sometimes means we don’t ask enough about the l...
RE: Is It Okay to Suck My Thumb at Bedtime?
I’ve gone back and forth about this myself, especially after my last checkup. I sucked my thumb at night until I was about 15 (yep, late bloomer here), and honestly, my teeth looked fine for years. My dentist would menti...
RE: Getting used to eating and talking with new teeth
Frozen fruit is a game changer, seriously. I tried making “smoothie bowls” with thawed berries and plain yogurt when I got bored of oatmeal. Meat was rough for me too - honestly, I just gave up on it for a bit. Lentil so...
RE: How soon did you get back to your routine after a tooth pulled?
I’m with you on the syringe - those things are weirdly satisfying to use, too. I had a molar out last year and food just kept finding its way into the socket no matter how careful I was. The dentist told me to avoid swis...
RE: If Your Braces Hurt Like Crazy At Night, What’s Your Go-To Fix?
Frozen grapes are such a win - my teen still asks for them, even after the braces came off. I totally get what you mean about the distraction factor. It’s like, if you’re eating something sweet and cold, you’re not just ...
