RE: these meds are turning my mouth into the sahara desert
Since the dryness is worst at night, an oral moisturizing gel may be worth considering: it can coat the mouth longer than a sip of water. Check the label for a sugar-free option, since dry mouth can make teeth more vulne...
RE: Weirdest thing I learned about cleaning clear aligners
Baking soda’s been my go-to for ages, actually. I tried those fancy aligner cleaning tablets, but they left a weird aftertaste and honestly, who has time to wait for them to dissolve every morning? Baking soda feels safe...
RE: If your kid’s baby teeth are decaying from bottle use, what would you actually do?
I totally get where you’re coming from - those brown spots can make you feel like you missed something, even when you’re doing your best. About healing cavities: it’s tricky. From what I’ve seen (and gone through with my...
RE: Brightening My Smile Without The Ouch - Is It Possible?
I totally get the anxiety about enamel - once it’s gone, it’s gone. I’ve actually stuck with a gentle whitening paste for a few months, and to be honest, the color change was subtle but real. No crazy sensitivity, though...
RE: What Actually Happens During a Full House Deep Clean?
That’s honestly spot on. Deep cleaning is like hitting the brakes, not a magic rewind button. I get wanting to feel a big change, but the real victory is keeping those pockets from getting deeper. Did your dentist mentio...
RE: Does switching to vaping actually help your teeth and gums?
Yeah, I’ve noticed the same thing with flavored vapes. The sweeter ones especially seem to dry out my mouth way more than just plain tobacco flavor. It’s weird, because you expect vaping to be a step up for your teeth an...
RE: Weirdest pain after getting braces tightened - normal or not?
That jaw clicking after adjustments is honestly more common than people realize. I’ve actually found chewy stuff way worse, too - almost like it pulls at teeth more aggressively. Did your ortho ever mention TMJ issues or...
RE: Surprising Things I Learned About Getting a New Set of Teeth
I get where you're coming from, but I honestly think the “teeth in a day” marketing is kind of misleading for most folks. A lot of people walk in expecting to be done in one shot, but that temp set isn’t always comfortab...
RE: Kicking the thumb habit - anyone else see their kid’s teeth straighten out?
I get where you’re coming from, but I’d actually push back a little on the “it sorts itself out” idea. My niece sucked her thumb until she was almost eight, and her dentist told us that the changes in her bite and palate...
RE: What if you woke up with dragon breath every day?
I get where you’re coming from - those fizzy tablets really do make a difference. I’ve actually asked my dentist about the mouthwash thing, and she was pretty firm: no soaking retainers in mouthwash, especially anything ...
RE: Worth it for kids’ teeth? Our fluoride varnish experience
Honestly, the texture thing was a huge issue for us too. My son is super sensitive - he used to gag just from toothpaste, so I was convinced fluoride varnish would be a nightmare. But it actually went way better than I e...
RE: If you could swap your dentures for implants, would you?
I get the appeal of implants, but I do think the “permanent” angle is sometimes oversold. Thing is, they can still fail - especially if you have gum issues or certain health conditions. My cousin went through the whole ...
RE: How do you feel about fluoride in your tap water?
That really hits home. I’m all for fluoride in water - I know some folks are wary, but the science is pretty solid on it helping prevent cavities, especially for kids who might not be the best brushers. But honestly, I’v...
RE: Getting kids to floss - what tricks actually work?
I get your point about emphasizing positive outcomes, but honestly, sometimes kids see right through that stuff. My son was totally unimpressed by sticker charts and rewards - he just didn't care enough. What actually wo...
RE: Braces for underbite taking forever and a day
Totally get what you're saying about shredded memory foam pillows - had the same issue myself. This is spot-on advice. Back sleeping really helps ease jaw strain, especially during orthodontic treatment. Hang in ther...
