RE: Permanent tooth still missing after extraction: normal delay or lost space?
The X-ray result needs to be read alongside the child’s normal eruption sequence and an examination of the extraction area. Seeing the permanent tooth on the image is reassuring, but it doesn’t by itself show that erupti...
RE: Mobile dental vans vs. community health centers for senior care - what's better?
That’s really reassuring to hear - it matches what I noticed when my daughter had a checkup at a mobile van last fall. The staff seemed super on top of things, and I liked that they took time to go over her allergy list ...
RE: CHOOSING A WHOLE NEW YOU: WHAT IF MAKEOVERS WERE LIKE RPG CHARACTER CREATION?
If I had to pick for myself, I’d probably spread the points around - bit of a “jack of all trades” approach. But with my kid, I’d go straight for boosting confidence. For us, that’s usually tied to a good haircut and may...
RE: Feeling stuck between DIY whitening and the dentist’s chair
I totally get the sticker shock - my kid needed a whitening before prom (teen priorities, right?) and when we saw the dental office price, I had to double-check if it included a new set of teeth or something. It’s wild. ...
RE: braces vs clear aligners: which made you feel less self-conscious?
My kiddo went through aligners last year, and I totally get the worry about feeling awkward. Here’s how it played out for us, step by step: 1) First week, she sounded a little funny - think “s” turning into “sh” - but ...
RE: Why do kids always seem to chip a tooth at the worst possible moment?
That’s so true about kids thinking chipped teeth are cool - I remember my daughter showing hers off like it was a badge of honor. I was way more anxious than she was. We ended up going in just to be sure, and the dentist...
RE: Retainer snapped in half - what now?
Totally relate to this - my son’s backup retainer was a no-go too. He tried to force it for a night and woke up cranky, so lesson learned there. The ortho told us not to risk it if it feels off, which I wish I’d known so...
RE: How much is too much when it comes to fluoride rinse?
That’s pretty much what our dentist said too - good brushing habits are the real game changer. We used to buy the rinse, but honestly, my son hated the taste and it felt like one more thing to nag about. I’d rather focus...
RE: Would you freak out if your stitches took longer to dissolve?
My kid had dissolvable stitches after getting a tooth pulled, and I swear it felt like we were checking his mouth every five minutes for two weeks straight. The dentist said “about a week,” but nope, those things hung in...
RE: EASY CLEAN TEETH WITH BRACES: WHAT IF FLOSSING WASN'T AN OPTION?
I get where you’re coming from - my kid’s ortho actually recommended water flossers, and I was skeptical at first about the price, too. But honestly, it’s been a game changer for us. The trick was finding a basic model o...
RE: Weirdest pain after getting braces tightened - normal or not?
My kiddo had the same thing - after each tightening, it wasn’t just the teeth. The whole head seemed off. About those headaches, yeah, they happened a few times here too. I think it’s all the pressure shifting everything...
RE: How I keep track of my gum check-ups (and wonder if I'm doing it right)
I totally relate to that - my kid’s gums sometimes look a bit puffy too, even when she’s not complaining about pain. I used to worry it meant something was wrong, but our dentist said mild redness or puffiness can just b...
RE: Swollen gums after getting braces - normal or not?
My kiddo went through something similar a few months back. At first, I figured the puffiness was just part of the whole braces experience - everyone warns you about sore teeth, but not so much about balloon gums. We trie...
RE: Weird sensations after getting braces off - how to make it less awkward?
Totally relate to this. My kiddo had the same thing - missed one night, and the next morning it was a wrestling match getting the retainer in. We ended up making it part of the bedtime routine, like brushing teeth, just ...
